Collection includes a photocopied 13-page survey which traces variations in word usage (labeled "Hoosierisms") through four states: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, using 36 informants identified by community, county, state, sex, age, and birthplace. A second item is a photocopied excerpt from a letter written by Robert Jones in 1941 to Caroline Dunn, which gives the meaning of the word "Hoosier" as used in Ontario, Canada.

The daughter of Jacob Piatt Dunn, Caroline Dunn was a resident of Indianapolis, Ind. She was a librarian, and spent much of her career (1939-1973) at the William Henry Smith Library of the Indiana Historical Society.
